VERIBEST, TX -- After roughly a month-long search, it appears Veribest High School has found a new coach to fill their girl's head basketball coach vacancy.
A source close to the matter told San Angelo LIVE! that current Fort Bend Marshall assistant coach Andrew Spencer will be brought in front of the school board as the lone finalist for the position. The source said the vote will take place at the school board's next regular meeting on May 20.
Veribest ISD Superintendent Ryder Appleton could neither confirm or deny the source, saying, "Personnel is a standing agenda item each month for the board to consider and/or take any action deemed relevant and necessary. Specific recommendations are not public information at this time."
Prior to Fort Bend Marshall, Spencer picked up head coaching experience as the boy's head coach at George West in 2017-18.
If the source proves true, and the vote is in favor of the 25-year-old, Spencer will inherit a team that is fresh off the best season in program history, including their first district title in 17 years and the program's first ever regional tournament trip. The will lose just three seniors from the 2018-2019 team.
The post was left vacant after Jim Eubank and Veribest parted ways following one year together.
