Neslage's Second No-Hitter Helps Bobcats Open Playoffs in Dominant Fashion

SAN ANGELO, TX -- The Central Bobcats started their playoff campaign strong a 10-0 win in five innings behind Trey Neslage's no-hitter against the Lamar Vikings to start a three-game series.

“Trey was locked in. I know it only went five innings, but it’s still considered a no-hitter,” head Coach Patrick Penry said. “You have performances from Dawson Daniel on first base, not only flashing the leather, but also hitting a home run.”

The senior would finish the day allowing just three walks against three strikeouts.

Oscar Nino sparked the Bobcats with an RBI single in the bottom of the first. Cayden Box would then score on an error. Dawson Daniel followed with his two-run home run, ending the first inning up 4-0.

“I was up there trying to do the best for my team," Daniel said. “I was just trying to hit a line drive, but the ball ended up going over the fence which electrified us and we started going.”

Bobcats still hot from the first inning were able to hold Lamar to zero. With a quick three outs the Bobcats were back up to bat to extend their lead.  Nixon Brannon and Gunner Couch tallied up a total of three RBIs for the Bobcats to go up 7-0.

Lamar’s outfield helped the Vikings keep the Bobcats from scoring and caught every fly ball that came their way.

However, in the bottom of the fifth, Bobcat’s Blake Mikeska hit a line and drive to center field for two RBIs to end the game 10-0.

“That’s baseball. Anything can happen and we know that.” Penry said. “I’m proud of these guys, but I told them the job's not done. We've still got to win another game.”

The Central Bobcats travel to Arlington for game two on Friday, May 3.
