Former ASU Basketball Coach Signs Huge Extension with Texas Tech
LUBBOCK, TX -- Angelo State's former head men's basketball coach has received a new contract from Texas Tech on Monday.
Coach Chris Beard has signed a deal that will keep him at Texas Tech through the 2024-2025 season. According to Texas Tech, the contract will make him $4.575 million dollars annually.
In the past two seasons with the Red Raiders Beard has taken his team to the elite eight and then the national championship game where the fell short to Virginia.
"In only three years, Chris Beard has elevated Texas Tech to the upper echelon of college basketball," Director of Athletics Kirby Hocutt said. "The 2018 Elite Eight, and this year's appearance in the National Championship game has raised the entire profile of Texas Tech Athletics and is a source of great pride for all Red Raiders."
In four seasons as a Division I head coach, Beard is 106-36 including going 30-5 at Little Rock in the 2015-16 before being named the head coach at Tech on April 15, 2016. Coach Beard was at Angelo State for two seasons and he took his team to the third round of the Division Two NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament. He went 47-15 in the regular season and 19-9 in conference play while being the Rams head coach.
"Together we have accomplished some great things in the past three years" said Coach Beard. "We are not satisfied and will continue working tirelessly to build one of the best college basketball programs in the nation."
