Christoval Girls Claims Area Runner-Up, Athletes Book Regional Tickets

 

MERTZON, TX -- The first tickets to the regional track meet were booked yesterday at Irion County High School during the Area Meet for District 7 and 8-2A.

The Christoval Lady Cougars had the best showing as a team, finishing second with 93 points. Christoval's runner-up finish was helped by Allison Vaughn claiming gold in the 800-meter run and triple jump. She also individually qualified for regionals in long jump with a second place finish. Vaughn was on Christoval's second place mile relay team as well.

Miles' Mason Bryan swept the long jump and triple jump as he did in the district meet a week ago. Miles' Skyler Brooks took the long jump and the 100-meter titles. 

The Concho Valley conquered the Big Country in terms of distance running.

Manuel and Humberto Torralba, of Ozona, finished first and second in the 800- and 1600-meter run and Josa Moya, of Eldorado, finished fourth to qualify for the regional meet. Miles' Joe Meza finished third in the 1600. Meza and Moya finished first and second in the 3200-meter run.

Nine of the 24 relay teams will be Concho Valley schools, as well.

The Class 2A Region I track meet is on April 26 at South Plains College in Levelland.
