SONORA, TX -- The Wall Lady Hawks clinched a playoff berth with a 13-2 win over Sonora in five innings on Tuesday after the game was postponed on Saturday due to weather.
Sonora lead 1-0 after the first inning before Wall held the Lady Broncos scoreless. Wall then scored 13 unanswered runs over the next four innings to take a 13-1 lead.
Ashlynn Box led the way for Wall, going 2-for-4 at the plate with a pair of RBIs. Sloan Smith also picked up two RBIs and went 1-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored.
Box's day extended her on-base streak to 47 games and her hit streak to 21 games.
Brae Harris went 2-for-2 at the plate with an RBI for Sonora. Danyse Cantu went 1-for-3 at the plate with an RBI to her name as well.
Izzy Vera picked up the win for Wall by allowing two runs on six hits and a walk with five strikeouts. Cantu was charged with the loss after allowing 10 runs on five hits and six walks with one strikeout.
Wall (10-16, 8-2) will square off with first place Ballinger on Friday with the District 4-3A crown on the line. Sonora (5-18, 2-9) will close out their season at Brady this Friday.
Fourth Inning Highlights Dominant Win for Junction
A five-run fourth inning highlighted a dominant 13-3 win for Junction over Eldorado on Tuesday.
Those five runs came during a string of nine unanswered runs and helped Junction to a commanding 9-0 lead entering the bottom of the fourth.
Emily Lovelace and Nadia Menchaca combined for six RBIs in the win. Lovelace finished the day 2-for-4 at the plate with a run scored. Mechaca had just one hit.
Jackie Covarrubiaz and Jadyn Martinez led the way for Eldorado. Covarrubiaz was 1-for-3 with a team-high two RBIs. Martinez went 2-for-3 with the team-high mark in hits.
Jordan Johnson led the way in the circle for Junction with dominance. Johnson went seven innings and allowed three runs on four hits with 12 strikeouts.
Martinez took the loss for Eldorado in the circle after allowing nine runs on eight hits and three walks with one strikeout in four innings of work.
Junction (11-8, 5-3) hosts Harper this Friday. Eldorado (6-9, 3-5) travels to Mason this Friday.
Mason Makes Quick Work of Menard
The Mason Cowgirls dominated Menard for a 16-1 win in four innings on Tuesday.
The win kept Mason's one-game lead atop District 5-2A in tact.
Menard tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the first inning before Mason scored 10 unanswered runs. That stretch included an eight-run third inning for the Cowgirls.
Vanessa Rodriguez and Jesse Armstrong led the offensive onslaught for the Cowgirls. Rodriguez went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Armstrong was 2-for-3 with four RBIs and two runs scored.
Armstrong showcased her dominance in the circle as well, going four innings and allowing one run on three hits with eight strikeouts.
Mason (14-7, 9-0) hosts Eldorado this Friday. Menard will close out the season at Eldorado on April 16.
