LUBBOCK, TX -- Texas Tech University has announced class cancellations for Monday night and all of Tuesday in response to the Red Raiders' first-ever appearance in the NCAA Basketball National Championship game.
A Texas Tech notice said all classes after 5:00 p.m. on Monday and all Tuesday classes will not be held, according to a report from KBCD in Lubbock. The report also said academic buildings will shutdown at 6:00 p.m. on Monday and reopen at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday. Non-academic buildings will run on their regular schedule, the report added.
The Red Raiders and former Angelo State University head coach, Chris Beard, advanced to their first-ever basketball national championship game with a 61-51 win over Michigan State in Minneapolis on Saturday.
The win sent Lubbock into a frenzy.
Police reportedly had to use tear gas to disperse wild fans who took to the street. A GoFundMe page was even set up for one resident whose car was flipped and severely damaged.
Texas Tech will face Virginia on Monday at 8:20 p.m. on Monday.
