SAN ANGELO, TX -- Fresh off their run to the state semifinals, the Wall Lady Hawks nearly completed a sweep of the District 4-3A superlatives.
Senior point guard Sawyer Lloyd was named the overall MVP of the district after helping guide the Lady Hawks back to San Antonio for the first time since 2016. The Angelo State Belle basketball signee averaged 11.8 points per game during one-loss regular season. Lloyd, a four-year varsity player, was also the team leader in three-point percentage, shooting 38 percent from behind the arc.
Forwards Sam Rocha and Jayden Fiebiger took home the offensive and defensive MVP honors respectively.
Rocha, also bound for Renae Shippy's Belles following graduation, led Wall's offense which averaged 56 points this season with 14.7 points per game during the regular season. The 6-1 forward was also a nightmare on the offensive boards with 88 offensive rebounds. Rocha saved arguably her best performance for last, posting a double-double of 24 points and 11 rebounds in Wall's heart-breaking overtime loss to no. 2 Mount Pleasant Chapel Hill in the state semifinals.
Fiebiger was the staple of Wall's stingy defense which allowed 29.5 points on average. The Oklahoma State University track signee posted 143 total rebounds and 33 blocks in their 27 regular season games.
Wall sophomore Kylie Phillips and Ballinger freshman Jenna Battle split the Newcomer of the Year honors in the district after their teams finished first and second.
Phillips averaged 3.8 points per game during the regular season while hauling in 2.1 rebounds per game.
Battle is a player head coach Jerry McSherry is "very excited" about for the next three years. The freshman averaged four points, 3.1 rebounds, 2.5 steals and one assist per game coming off the bench for Ballinger in her debut year.
The district coach of the year honor with to Wall's Tate Lombard.
