EASTLAND, TX -- The Central Bobcats' playoff run was stopped early this year as the no. 3-ranked North Crowley Panthers pummeled the 'Cats 88-57 in the boy's basketball bi-district round.
The Panthers showed their ranking throughout the first quarter. They started in a press that caused Central to turn the ball over on multiple occasions. They started on a 15-2 run, which never let up to end the quarter 23-6.
After a five-point run to start the quarter by the Panthers, Central started to play better. They went on a five-point run on their own, but the Bobcats then went into a press on their own which was easily taken advantage of. North Crowley went on a 7-0 run to go into halftime with a 43-17 lead.
Central's game plan in their hopes of a comeback started from the three-point line.
Tristan Lopez had eight points in the quarter, six coming from range. They scored their first two baskets to start the quarter and continued to let them fly throughout the quarter. Central played a zone throughout the game to help them with the size advantage for the Panthers. They were able to get a number of steals out of the zone and the full court trap press, but were not able to take advantage. The score going into the fourth was 55-33.
The fourth quarter was the most action packed part of the night. Both teams scored high points in the quarter. The score in the quarter was 33-25 in favor of the panthers. The main take away of the quarter was that the Panthers shot 17 for 20 from the free throw line. Dev Minix hit three three-pointers in the fourth quarter.
Minix finished with 15 points.
Isaiah Wyatt had 23 points for North Crowley.
Garden City Edges O'Donnell for Bi-District Title
The Garden City Bearkats started off their playoff run with a narrow 44-41 win over O'Donnell for the bi-district championship on Monday.
Parker Koenning had a team-high 10 points in the win.
Koenning, Dakota Roberts and Cesar Chavez each hit three-pointers to help Garden City to the win. As a whole, Garden City shot 47 percent from behind the three-point line Monday night.
Chavez also tallied five assists in the win. Hagan Halfmann dominated the boards with nine of Garden City's 34 rebounds.
The Bearkats will play New Home in the area round.
