KERRVILLE, TX -- The Central Lady Cat softball team picked up their first win of the season behind Ashton McMillan's first career no-hitter on Thursday.
Central beat Pleasanton 3-0 in five innings to open the Kerrville tournament thanks to McMillan's stellar first start for the Lady Cats this season.
The sophomore hurler pitched the complete game no-hitter by striking out 10 and walking just two.
Emily Sanchez drove in two runs for Central with an RBI bunt single in the bottom first and RBI double in the third inning.
Sanchez finished the game 2-for-2 at the plate with two RBIs.
Central capped off the day with a 1-0 win over Natalia in a game once again highlighted by pitching.
Allizaya Talamantes made her first appearance for Central and pitched four shutout innings with four strikeouts. Sophomore Bailey Fulps came on in the fifth inning to close out the game by allowing one hit.
Fulps was 1-for-2 at the plate with an RBI double in the top of the fourth inning that proved to be the deciding run for Central's second win of the year.
Central (2-1) will continue at Kerrville on Friday with games against Boerne Champion and Kerrville Tivy.
Miles Splits First Day of Reagan County Tournament
The Miles Lady Bulldogs opened their 2019 campaign with a split of the first day at the Reagan County Tournament.
The Lady Bulldogs opened the tournament with an 18-1 win in four innings over Reagan County's JV thanks in part to an eight-run fourth inning.
Miles sent 13 batters to the plate in that inning. Skyler Brooks highlighted the explosive inning with a bunt triple that scored Tycie Lange.
Allie Kalina had the best game offensively, going 2-for-3 at the plate with three runs scored and a pair of RBIs. Brooks and Lange each went 2-for-2 with four runs scored and an RBI.
Lange and Lizzy Siler combined to pitch the four inning game.
Lange surrendered the only run on three hits with three strikeouts. Siler surrendered six hits, but struck out four batters in her season debut.
Miles then ran into a tough Early Lady Longhorn team in their second game, which they lost 4-2.
The Lady Bulldogs took the lead in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI ground out from Brooks. Early then took a 2-1 lead in the third.
Miles tied the game in the fourth on an RBI double from Regan Smithwick.
Early responded with two runs in the next frame to win the game.
Brooks went 1-for-3 in the game with a run and an RBI. Lange was also 1-for-3 with a run scored.
Siler went five innings before Lange took over for the final inning in the sixth. Siler surrendered all four runs on six hits with three strikeouts and a walk.
Miles (1-1) will resume play on Saturday against Wall.
