AREA SOCCER: Flurry of Penalties Snubs Central's Comeback; Maidens Claim Hardware

SAN ANGELO, TX -- A flurry of goals and penalties in the second half snubbed the Central Bobcats' comeback attempt against Odessa Permian in a 3-3 draw Friday night.

Permian opened the scoring in the 12th minute and held Central at bay to take a 1-0 lead at halftime.

The Bobcats responded in the 42nd minute when Carter Steele finished off Juan Rodriguez's low-played cross into the box to pull Central level at 1-1.

Permian regained the lead at 2-1 in the 61st minute on the first of three penalties in the second half.

After a Permian shot bounced out of play off the woodwork in the 67th minute, Central went to work to quickly counter. Triston Hill would finish off the counter with a goal in the 68th minute to pull Central level at 2-2.

Central continued to pressure Permian's goal after that. After the Panthers' goalkeeper misplayed a cross, Central had an opportunity at goal. It was blocked by the hand of a Permian field player, giving Central a penalty in the 69th minute.

Keagan Plymell coolly slotted the spot kick into the back of the net to give Central their first lead of the match at 3-2.

Five minutes from full-time, Central committed a handball in their own penalty box. Permian converted the penalty to pull the score level at 3-3.

Central (2-4-1) will continue their slate against regional rivals with a trip to Midland High on Jan. 22.
