Area Girls Teams Hold in Latest TABC Rankings

SAN ANGELO, TX-- The four Concho Valley girls basketball teams saw little to no change in their spot in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches top 25 rankings this week.

The Wall Lady Hawks (20-1, 6-0) held the top spot for yet another week in Class 3A. Wall is sitting on a 12-game winning streak that dates back to Dec. 4 when they edged out Tuscola Jim Ned 41-38.

The Lady Hawks were idle last Friday and beat Ballinger 52-24 last Tuesday. Wall travels to face Reagan County on Tuesday, Jan. 15, to start the second round of district play.

The Mason Cowgirls (26-1, 2-0) are the hottest team in the area right now, sitting on a 19-game winning streak. They held their spot at no. 3 in Class 2A. The only teams in front of them are no. 2 Panhandle (21-3) and unbeaten no. 1 Martins Mill (25-0).

Mason hasn't lost a game since dropping a narrow 48-46 result against Lubbock Trinity in the Brady Heart of Texas Tournament in November. The Cowgirls responded by starting their streak six hours later with a 62-29 win over Class 5A El Paso Ysleta. They would later avenge their only loss with a 58-42 win over Lubbock Trinity.

During their 19-game run, the Cowgirls have beaten their opponents by an average of 27 points. Nine of those wins have come by 30 points or more. Three wins came by a margin of 50 points or more.

Mason only had one game last week, which was a 74-37 win over Harper to move to 2-0 in District 27-2A. The Cowgirls travel to face rival Junction on Tuesday, Jan. 15.

The Veribest Lady Falcons (16-5, 5-1) were the only team to see any change in the rankings. It came from district rival Blackwell dropping to no. 22 in the Class 1A rankings after Veribest edged them 56-51 on Friday.

The Lady Falcons still hold the no. 21 spot in the rankings. The win over Blackwell pulled Veribest even with Blackwell in the District 11-1A standings.

Veribest will look to build on the momentum from their win over Blackwell when they travel to Sterling City on Tuesday, Jan. 15.
