WATER VALLEY, TX-- The Bronte Longhorns used 32 first half points to get past their rival, the Water Valley Wildcats, on Friday.
Bronte won the District 11-1A clash 47-36 thanks to five three pointers by Hunter Hortenstine. Three of those came in the second quarter where Bronte gained control of the game with 17 total points.
Hortenstine finished the game with a game-high 16 points. Garret Knight finished with 15 points and a pair of three pointers.
Josiah Padilla finished as the team-high scorer for Water Valley with 12 points. Angel Dominguez was the only other Wildcat to finish in double figures with 10 points.
Bronte improves to 1-1 in district play heading into their home meeting with Blackwell on Jan. 8. Water Valley will travel to Veribest on Jan. 8.
Everitt Helps TLCA Keep Pace in District Play.
The TLCA Eagles jumped out early and never looked back for a 57-24 district win over the Sonora Broncos on Friday.
The Eagles had a huge performance Jevon Everitt, who put up seven points in the quarter. The Eagles also mixed up their defenses throughout the quarter causing multiple fast break opportunities.
At the end of the first quarter, the score was 11-5 in the Eagles favor.
The only way to describe the second quarter was defense. Sonora to finally got a bucket in the final 10 seconds of the quarter on the tough Eagle defense.
Everitt ended with 15 points in the half.
The Broncos in the second half more than doubled their first half score, but also gave up 22 points.
Everitt and Isaac Gonzales tore up the Sonora defense, scoring 17 points combined to extend TLCA's lead to 48-17 after the third quarter.
The end of the game was very loose and easy-going with the starters not playing much.
Everitt finsihed with 22 points and Gonzales finished with 19.
TLCA (14-3, 2-0) travels to Grape Creek on Jan. 8. Sonora (9-9, 1-2) has a break in district play before hosting Grape Creek on Jan. 11.
Guerra, No. 13 Wall Bounce Back in Rout of Brady
The no. 13-ranked Wall Hawks bounced back from a 1-3 showing at the Whataburger Tournament with a season-high scoring mark in an 80-42 rout of the Brady Bulldogs Friday night.
The Hawks did so behind Isaiah Guerra and Baylor Halfmann who combined for six of Wall's 10 three pointers on the night.
Wall took control from the very start by outscoring Brady 23-8 in the first quarter. The Hawks followed that up by extending their lead to 45-16 at the half thanks to Guerra and Halfmann scoring five points each.
Brady then found a rhythm in the third quarter with Kelton Bernard and Anthony Cook each making a pair of three pointers. Yet, Wall extended their lead to 60-30 after outscoring the Bulldogs by one point in the quarter.
Bernard stayed hot for the Bulldogs, scoring six of their 12 points in the fourth quarter. But Colton Chitsey's six points highlighted a 20-point outburst from Wall to finish the game.
Bernard had the game-high scoring mark with 15 points and three three pointers.
Guerra had Wall's team-high of 14 points on a night the Hawks had four players in double figures. Chitsey and Halfmann each finished with 13 points. Mason Kindle had 10 points and a pair of threes.
Wall (19-3, 3-0) will travel to Ballinger on Jan. 8 with first place in District 4-3A on the line.
Brady (4-15, 0-2) will host Reagan County on Jan. 8.
Lake View Rebounds to Complete Season Sweep of Ballinger
After a lopsided loss to Abilene Cooper the day prior, the Lake View Chiefs found a rhythm to beat Ballinger 52-39 and complete the season sweep of their 3A foes.
Lake View got the win despite a slow first quarter that ended with Ballinger taking an 11-5 lead to the second quarter.
Lake View then put the clamps on the Bearcats to outscore them 19-2 in the second and take a 24-13 halftime lead.
Ballinger chipped away at Lake View's lead with a 13-7 advantage in the third, but Lake View still led 31-26 going to the fourth quarter.
Then, just about anything fell for the Chiefs who outscored the Bearcats 21-13 in the final period to secure the win.
Spearheading the way for the Chiefs was Ahmad Daniels, who hit four of Lake View's six three pointers. The senior guard finished with a game-high 19 points.
Johnny Espinosa was the only other Chief in double figures with 10 points to his credit.
Kenyan Gonzales was the only Bearcat to break double digits with 13 points. Daniel Cavasos and Jon Delgado both had eight points.
Lake View (11-13) will close out their non-district schedule at home against Midland Lee on Jan. 8.
Ballinger (13-9, 2-0) returns to District 4-3A for a home game against first place Wall on Jan. 8.
