BALLINGER, TX-- The Ballinger Bearcats and Jim Ned Indians combined for 13 three pointers in a 47-37 loss for the Bearcats.
Jim Ned posted nine three pointers in the game and they needed them after Ballinger stormed back to take a narrow lead before halftime.
Three pointers from Jim Ned's Tyler Heath, Ethan Senne and Cade Ford, who scored five points in the first quarter, helped lift the Indians to a 17-10 lead after the first. Ballinger stayed close by attacking the paint with Marcus Toliver, who tallied four points in the first.
Ballinger then got scorching hot from behind the arc with their four three pointers for the game to take a 31-29 lead into the break. Jon Delgado had half of those threes. Daniel Cavasos had five points in the second.
Then the Bearcats went cold. They were outscored 18-6 in the final 16 minutes of play. Jim Ned notched two three pointers in each the third and fourth quarters to close out the game.
Toliver and Delgado led the way for Ballinger with eight points each.
Jim Ned's Ford had the game-high with 14 points and four three pointers. Senne was right behind him with 13 points and three three pointers.
Ballinger (13-7) will travel to face the Lake View Chiefs for a second time this season. Lake View won at Ballinger in the early part of the season last time.
Abilene Cooper Makes Chiefs Pay for Missed Shots
After holding close to Abilene Cooper for a quarter, the Lake View Chiefs went cold for a 71-28 drubbing in a matchup of former district rivals. The loss also snapped a five-game win streak for the Chiefs.
Cooper used three three pointers and 21 points to jump out to a 21-12 lead after the first quarter.
That was as close as the game would get. Cooper outscored Lake View 44-10 over the next two quarters to take a 65-22 lead into the fourth quarter.
The two teams held even at 6-6 in the final quarter to conclude Cooper's onslaught.
Junior captain Jesse Greer was the only Chief in double digit scoring. He had 14 points, including all four of Lake View's second quarter points.
Lake View (10-13) will look to bounce back against Ballinger on Friday.
