MONAHANS, TX-- The Lake View Chiefs found some rhythm over the holiday break at the Monahans Chamber Christmas Tournament.
The Chiefs went 5-0 in the tournament to earn a share of first place in the pool play tournament.
Lake View kicked off the tournament with a narrow 48-47 win over the host Monahans on Thursday. They followed that up with a 63-53 win over Bushland in their second game of the day.
Then the Chiefs kicked it up another notch, routing Fort Stockton 76-41 to kick off day two of the tournament.
Lake View highlighted that win by outscoring Fort Stockton 25-7 in the fourth quarter.
Dylan Hart was the game-high scorer with 26 points for the Chiefs. Joseph Brooks was the only other Chief to finish in double digits with 10 points.
The Chiefs then exacted their revenge in a rematch from last week against Odessa High. Lake View couldn't hold on to a 12-point lead in that overtime loss a week ago.
This time, Lake View dominated from start to finish for a 68-50 win over the Bronchos.
Lake View asserted their will by outscoring Odessa 24-7 in the second quarter behind a combined 17 points from Johnny Espinosa and Dylan Hart.
The Chiefs had three players finish in double digit scoring. Hart led the way again with 22 points. Espinosa finished with 17 points. Right behind him was Ahmad Daniels with 16 points.
The Chiefs capped off the tournament with another convincing win, this time a 51-36 result over Presidio.
As was the case in the Odessa game, Lake View used a big second quarter to pull well ahead of the Blue Devils by outscoring them 22-10.
Hart finished in double figures again with 11 points. He was the only Chief to finish in double figures for that game.
Lake View (9-12) will welcome former district rival Abilene Cooper to the Ben Norton Gym on Jan. 2 to kick off the new year.
