Lady Hawks Stars Lloyd, Rocha Officially Staying Home After Signing to ASU

WALL, TX-- Two stars on the Wall Lady Hawk basketball team are staying home after signing National Letters of Intent to Angelo State University.

On Thursday, seniors Sam Rocha and Sawyer Lloyd signed to play for the Belles and head coach Renae Shippy.

Lloyd, who is the point guard for the Lady Hawks, is a four year player for the Lady Hawks. She’s started for the Lady Hawks since her sophomore year. She was named district Newcomer of the Year during Wall’s state championship run in 2014-15.

The 5-foot-9, All-State guard was second on the team in scoring during their 40-30 win over Midland Lee on Tuesday.

"Sawyer is an extreme athlete with a relentless work ethic,"  Shippy said in an Angelo State Athletics press release. "She is a floor general who is extremely efficient and will produce on both sides of the floor for us. Her competitiveness and will to be successful are something you just can't teach and will give her an edge at the collegiate level."

Lloyd is the back-to-back district MVP in 4-3A as well. She was also picked to play in the Texas Girls Coaches Association All-Star game this past summer.

Rocha, the 2017-18 Co-Offensive MVP in 4-3A, will add size and intelligence to Shippy’s squad.

"Sam has a great frame at 6’1" and has great touch around the rim," Shippy continued in the release. "She can shoot the ball from the outside and is incredibly crafty in the post. She has a high basketball IQ and that, combined with her ability to lead, makes her a great asset to our program."

Along with her MVP honors last season, Rocha was an All-Region selection for the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches.

The 6-foot-1 forward posted a team-high 15 points in their win over Midland Lee on Tuesday.

While the two officially signed on Thursday, they will hold the ceremony on Monday at Wall High School.

The Wall Lady Hawks host Colorado City at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
