STERLING CITY, TX--The Wall Lady Hawks dominated the Crane Lady Birds in a Bi-District sweep on Tuesday.
“We had a balanced offense,” said Wall Lady Hawks head coach Robynn Jones “Thanks to our defensive specialists and our passes, without those passes we can’t have a balanced offense.”
The sweep happened with very little struggles. Wall won 25-16, 25-21, and 25-19.
“Our right side plays a huge role in our offense,” said Jones when asked about her offensive roles. “Which is rare in our division. So if we can get that going, it’ll be something they haven’t seen. Gives us a little bit of a wrinkle that these teams won’t expect. For Rylee and Natalie to have strong games it is huge for us.”
That is exactly how Rylee Braden and Natalie Dragt did tonight with Braden having three kills and three digs and Dragt having two kills and one dig.
“Candra Barnett had a strong game from start to finish," Jones said. “If she can control the ball in the back row, if she can talk and help others be stronger, we know we’ll have a strong offense. If she can keep it up throughout the playoffs, we’ll be a team to be reckoned with.” Barnett finished with 13 digs.
Other stat leaders for the Lady Hawks were Lauren Scherr with six kills and two blocks and Tatum Granzin with 10 assists and four aces.
“We’re coming off some strong games, so we’re looking to put up a fight against them,” Jones said about a tough upcoming game against Bushland.
Wall will play Bushland in the Area round of the playoffs Thursday, Nov. 1 at 7:00 p.m. in Lamesa.
Sonora Makes Quick Work of Presidio
Wall's district rival, the Sonora Lady Broncos, also found themselves on the pleasant side of the broom with a sweep of the Presidio Lady Devils in Fort Stockton.
Sonora dispatched Presidio 25-17, 25-18 and 25-7.
Stats for the game have not been posted yet. This will be updated with stats when they become available.
The Lady Broncos will face the Friona Squaws in the Area round on Thursday, Nov. 1 at 6:30 p.m.
