FORT STOCKTON, TX-- The TLCA Lady Eagles are coming back to San Angelo with the program's first-ever gold ball.
The Lady Eagles had to go the distance in this fight, prevailing in five sets over the Tornillo Lady Coyotes.
TLCA dropped the first set 25-21 before taking the next two sets 25-22 and 28-26. Tornillo forced a decisive set with a 25-23 result in the fourth set.
The Lady Eagles secured the match with a 15-9 win in the fifth set.
Senior Isabelle Russell had a stellar game at the net with a double-double. Russell had 22 kills and 16 digs. She and Bri Delacruz each had three aces as well.
Russell wasn't the only one to notch a double-double for TLCA on the historic night. Sophomore Kait Kirkland had 14 kills and 41 digs for the Lady Eagles.
TLCA advances to the area round where they will face the winner of the Denver City-Amarillo River Road match. That match is scheduled for Oct. 30.
