AREA VOLLEYBALL: Sonora Continues to Roll, Stays Undefeated in District with Win Over TLCA

 

SONORA, TX-- The Sonora Lady Broncos finished the first round of District 4-3A play undefeated with a sweep of the TLCA Lady Eagles on Saturday.

The Lady Broncos won 25-10, 25-19 and 25-23 to improve to 18-13 overall and 5-0 in district. The win extends their win streak to five games.

Senior hitter Mary Kyle Johnson led the Lady Broncos to the win with 14 kills and five blocks, both team highs.

Junior Brae Harris finished second in the kill category with seven. However, Harris was a key defensive piece by digging out 10 TLCA attacks to lead the team's defense.

Jackilyn Sykes and Raeven Harris were balanced in setting up the Lady Broncos offense. The duo each had seven assists in the win.

Sonora travels to Wall on Tuesday. TLCA travels to Grape Creek on Tuesday

Wall Continues Dominance in Win Over Reagan County

The Wall Lady Hawks also continued to roll in 4-3A play with a sweep of Reagan County on Saturday.

Wall won 25-7, 25-6 and 25-16 to improve to 22-13 and 5-1 in district.

The Lady Hawks' balanced attack was led by Kaitlyn Stephens, who posted six kills in the win. Lauren Scherr was right behind Stephens with five kills for Wall. Kylie Phillips and Natalie Dragt each had four kills.

Rylee Luther finished the game with 14 assists for Wall. Tatum Granzin had nine assists.

Candra Barnett provided great defense for the Lady Hawks, tallying 10 digs against the Lady Owls.

A win against Sonora on Tuesday would even the season series between the two teams and give Wall a half-game lead in the district standings.

Reagan County will host Grape Creek next Saturday.

Defending Champ Bronte Bounces Back Against Water Valley

The Bronte Lady Longhorns bounced back with a big, four-set win over Water Valley Saturday. The Lady Longhorns are now 13-0 at home this season.

The Water Valley Lady Wildcats swept the first match back in September.

The Lady Wildcats took the first set 25-16.

Bronte responded like a defending state champion and claimed the next three sets 25-22, 27-25 and 25-22. 

Bronte (21-9, 6-2) will travel to Sterling City on Tuesday. Water Valley hosts Veribest (25-7, 5-2) next Tuesday with sole possession of District 7-2A on the line.
