Euless Trinity Dominates Bobcats in 3-6A Wallop

SAN ANGELO, TX-- Euless Trinity was Euless Trinity on Friday night, defeating the Central Bobcats 70-28 at San Angelo Stadium.

"They just whipped us. That's the bottom line tonight," Central head coach Brent Davis said after the game.

Davis did praise his team in the loss, saying he felt his team "played hard all four quarters."

"We came back out and gave 'em a decent second half," Davis added. "Obviously, their starters weren't in there the whole time. We're just gonna try to get better, watch the film, see our mistakes and get ready for Abilene. That's really all you can do."

Trinity posted 522 yards of total offense. Senior Brandon Theus rushed for 135 yards and a pair of touchdowns for the Trojans.

Quarterback Laki Ellis was nearly perfect, going 7-of-8 passing for 137 yards and three touchdowns.

The Bobcats couldn’t get much going. Offensively, they were held to 363 yards of total offense in the loss.

Listen to Sam Fowler's observations right after the first half:

Malachi Brown was 19-of-33 passing for 215 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions.

A silver lining for the Bobcats was their receivers, who had their best showing since senior QB Maverick McIvor went down for the season.

Tanner Dabbert had his biggest game for the Bobcats, catching three passes for 94 yards and a touchdown. Fellow junior Christian Gabaldon also had a solid day with six receptions for 72 yards.

Davis was pleased with their showing against Trinity.

"Gabaldon played really well. He needed to," Central's head coach said. "Gabaldon has kinda been in his shell and he hadn't really been playing that great, but, man, he played good tonight. That's a big big positive. That's somebody we really needed to step up and start performing and start producing to get our four receivers in the game. I thought he played wonderful tonight."

Central held Trinity to a punt on their first possession, but a pass by Brown found the hands of Shamar Moore who went 25 yards the other way for the score.

"First quarter, I thought we were hanging in there a little bit," Central head coach Brent Davis said. "Then that pick six took the air out of us. It's just a real young football team playing a real veteran football team and that's kinda what showed."

Trinity would jump out to a 21-point lead before Central answered.

The Bobcats did so with a 2-yard touchdown pass from Brown to Jackson Timme.

After a 49-yard touchdown run from Trinity’s Jason Vaomotou, Central responded on the very next play. Brown found Tanner Dabbert across the middle for a 59-yard touchdown pass to pull within 28-14 with 9 minutes 13 seconds left in the second quarter.

Trinity then scored 42 unanswered points.

Running backs Sam Goodloe and Bobby Pena each scored a touchdown to make the disparaging gap look better at 70-28 by the fourth quarter.

Central falls to 4-2 and 1-1 in District 3-6A. They’ll travel to Abilene to face the Eagles next Friday.
