MILES, TX-- The Miles Bulldogs got off their two-game schneid with an impressive 24-14 win over state power Munday on Saturday.
The Bulldogs were opportunistic and capitalized on mistakes and turnovers by Munday.
Leading the charge for the Bulldogs in that team win was senior RB Mason Bryan, San Angelo Live’s Player of the Week for week 5.
Bryan finished the game with 117 yards rushing and one touchdown.
Heading into the game, Bryan was averaging well over 100 yards rushing per game and has been a staple on the Bulldog defense and special teams.
In the first half, Bryan was held to just 25 yards rushing on 11 carries. The bruising running back then tallied 92 yards and a touchdown on eight carries in the second half to put the Moguls away. In the third quarter, Bryan picked up most of his second half yards on a 63-yard touchdown run where he broke a handful of tackles en route to the end zone.
Bryan also showed his ability to be a weapon on special teams with a 63-yard punt in the second quarter to flip the field. At the time of the punt, Miles was backed up at their own 14. Munday started their next drive at their own 23. Miles’ defense then forced a fumble and recovered it.
Bryan is no stranger to accolades. After rushing for 312 yards and six touchdowns in the Bulldogs rout of Ranger in week 1, Bryan was nominated for Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Mr. Texas Football Player of the Week.
The win pulled Miles to a 3-2 record as their nondistrict schedule is finished. The Bulldogs will enjoy their bye week this week before facing District 8-2A DII favorite Menard in week 7.
