Winters Cools off Red-Hot Christoval

CHRISTOVAL, TX — The Winters Blizards blew away the  Christoval Cougars 40-14 in Christoval on Friday.

The Blizzards triple option offense was the real impact for this game with 348 rushing yards against the cougars. Nick Brown was a huge playmaker for the Blizzards, posting 141 yards and 2 touchdowns.

“Our whole defense came out and swarmed the ball, and thats exactly what we’ve done all year," said Winters head coach Matt McCarty. “Offensively, we told them they were going to take either our quarterback, full back or our slot. They took our QB away so gave it to our fullback and we ran it hard all night long”

The game started off with a good drive by the blizzards averaging 14 yards per carry and ending the drive with a touchdown by Sema’jae Jackson. Slater Lindsay found the end zone for the two-point conversion and made the score 8-0.

Christoval's first drive didn’t end as well, going three and out. Then they deep snapped the ball over the punters head into their own end-zone, but luckily it only ended in a safety to put Winters up 10-0.

The Cougars made up for the safety though by causing a fumble on the drive. The fumble led to a great drive and a touchdown by Braden Wilcox. The extra point was blocked by Winters to make it 10-6.

The following drive Winters came out and continued to run the option and sweeps outside using multiple players. The drive was eventually capped off by Nick Brown and the two-point conversion by Jovan Young.

With the score being 18-6 Christoval needed something big, and they almost got it when Clayton Edmiston returned the kick for a touchdown. The play was called back because of three fouls. A holding for Christoval and two unsportsmanlike conducts on Winters which led to two players being ejected. They ended up starting their drive inside the Blizzards 40 where David Fava found the end zone and the extra point to bring the score 18-14

With only fifty five seconds left in the half winters had to hurry, but they got it done with fourteen seconds left on the clock making the score 26-14 with the touchdown by Jovan Young and the two-point conversion for Nick Brown

The Cougars received the ball to start the half. They had success early, but they only got to the eleven yard where they threw an interception to Alex Salas. Christoval fought hard after the turnover making winters have 3 third downs and one forth down. Winters converted them all and ended up getting in the end zone with a four yard run by Brown.

Winters iced the game away with Young scoring on just before the final two minutes to bring the game to 40-14.

The Blizzards improve to 5-0 while the Cougars are now 3-2.

Winters will face Iraan next week while Christoval heads into their bye week.
