MENARD, TX-- The Menard Yellowjackets knocked off nondistrict rival Junction 26-20 at home on Friday.
The win moved Menard to a 2-2 record while the Junction Eagles fell to 0-4.
Menard’s star RB Christian Salazar led the way offensively with 16 carries for 157 yards and 3 touchdowns. Jasper Salas also finished over the century mark with 125 yards rushing on 10 carries.
Quarterback Sebastian Salas finished with the Yellowjackets’ only other touchdown. Salas had 7 yards rushing on 5 carries to go with his 3 completions for 20 yards passing.
Junction’s Jaden Hardesty completed 2 of 11 passes for 100 yards and two touchdowns. Isaac Rosas caught one touchdown on a 61-yard pass. Kyle Lumpkins caught the other on a 39-yard pass.
Junction will host Harper next Friday while Junction travels to Ozona.
Bronte Sprints Past Santa Anna Continue Hot Start to Six-Man Era
The Bronte Longhorns mercy ruled the Santa Anna Mountaineers 68-18 on Thursday to continue their hot start to six-man football.
Bronte posted 438 yards of total offense compared to Santa Anna’s 185.
Senior Garrett Knight was unstoppable, posting 255 yards rushing and 5 touchdowns on 21 carries in the win.
Riley McIntyre also had 5 touchdowns to go with 111 yards rushing on 6 carries. McIntyre finished the game off in the fourth quarter with a 37-yard touchdown run.
Danny Stensby led the team defensively with 6 tackles including a sack and 2 tackles for a loss.
Bronte (3-1) will host Sterling City (4-0) on Friday, Sept. 28.
