BRONTE, TX-- The Bronte Lady Longhorns completed a sweep of district foe Sterling City on Saturday.
The Lady Longhorns bead the Lady Eagles 25-16, 25-8 and 25-19 to improve to 16-8 overall and 2-1 in District 7-2A.
Senior hitter Kristen Stilley led the offensive onslaught put on by Bronte, tallying a team-high 11 kills in the win.
Cassidy McWright was good defensively and in transition by digging out six Sterling City attacks and assisting on 19 Bronte attacks.
Baily Torres also posted six digs for Bronte.
Bronte’s junior varsity also swept Sterling City on Saturday.
Next the Lady Longhorns will travel to Miles on Tuesday, Sept. 18.
Sonora Knocks off Crane in 4
The Sonora Lady Broncos had to come from behind after dropping the first set to Crane 26-24.
The Lady Broncos then won 25-17, 25-13 and 25-21 to secure the nondistrict win at home on Saturday.
Senior Mary Kyle Johnson and junior Brae Harris were the sparkplugs in Sonora’s attack once again. Johnson led the team with 15 kills while Harris was not far behind at 14.
Senior Lane Cahill was instrumental to Sonora’s defensive success, posting a team-high four blocks. Johnson and Harris each had two.
Senior Karah Martinez also got things done defensively with 10 digs to lead the team. Raeven Harris was the second highest with nine and Brae Harris posted eight.
Sonora improves to 13-12 overall as they face Water Valley at home this Tuesday to close out nondistrict play.
Wall Dominates Bangs
The Wall Lady Hawks dominated nondistrict foe Bangs on the road Saturday.
Wall won 25-13, 25-13 and 25-15 to get the sweep.
The Lady Hawks will play Veribest on Tuesday to close out nondistrict play before facing Sonora to open district play.
