AREA VOLLEYBALL: Miles, Central and Sonora Earn Sweeps on Tuesday

 

BANGS, TX-- The Miles Lady Bulldogs downed the Bangs Lady Dragons on Tuesday. The Lady Bulldogs won in straight sets for the sweep.

Miles won 25-18, 25-23 and 25-11.

Leading the way offensively was junior Skyler Brooks with seven kills. Senior Gissele Everhardt wasn't too far behind with six kills to her name.

Halle Hudson had a good day setting up the attack, notching 16 assists in the win.

Libero Libby Crouch proved to be a wall defensively with 12 digs for the Lady Bulldogs.

The Lady Bulldogs will next host Class 4A Sweetwater in Miles on Saturday, Sept. 1.

Central Sweeps 5A Abilene Cooper at Home

The Central Lady Cats swept Abilene Cooper at Babe Didrickson Gym on Tuesday.

The Lady Cats won the first two sets 25-14 before winning the third set 25-16.

The win snapped a two-game skid for Lady Cats from the San Marcos Tournament.

Central is now 14-5

Next up, the Lady Cats will host Brownwood this Friday at 5 p.m. It will be their next-to-last non-district game.

Lady Broncos Fight Off Brackettville Comeback

The Sonora Lady Broncos fought off a tough Brackettville squad to earn a road sweep on Tuesday.

Each winning margin for Sonora was slim. The Lady Broncos took the first two sets 25-23 and the third set 25-22.

Senior Mary Kyle Johnson paved the way for Sonora's win, offensively. The senior hitter was the only Lady Bronco with double digit kills at 14. Johnson also had five digs and two blocks to her name.

The next closest Lady Bronco in terms of kills was Brae Harris with seven.

Raeven Harris got things done defensively for Sonora, notching 17 digs. 

Sonora improves to 6-9 on the season.

The Lady Broncos will host the Spikefest Tournament this Thursday through Saturday in Sonora.

Water Valley Topples Wall in Thriller

The Water Valley Lady Wildcats were able to knock off the Wall Lady Hawks in a five set thriller on Tuesday in Wall.

The Lady Wildcats were up against Wall's wall after dropping the first two sets 25-22 and 25-23.

Water Valley then rallied to win the next three sets 25-17, 25-18 and 16-14.

Kylie Phillips led the way with 10 kills for the Lady Hawks. Mallory Melton was just one kill away from a double-double with nine kills and 11 assists. Rylee Luther had 18 assists in the loss.

Wall will host Colorado City this Saturday while Water Valley will compete in the Sonora tournament Friday and Saturday.
