Current Texas Tech and Former ASU Basketball Coach Returning to San Angelo to Speak

SAN ANGELO, TX-- Current Texas Tech head basketball coach and former Angelo State University basketball coach Chris Beard is coming back to San Angelo.

This Friday, Aug. 17, Beard will be in town to speak to the San Angelo Area Texas Tech Alumni at Zentner’s Daughter Steakhouse.

The luncheon is open to the public and plates are available for purchase.

Beard’s successor at Angelo State, Cinco Boone, reportedly will be there as well.

The third year Texas Tech coach is well remembered in the Concho Valley, as he took the Rams to their first-ever NCAA South Central Regional Final in the 2014-15 season. Beard’s Rams also set another record that season with 28 wins, the most ever at ASU in a season.

After that season, Beard accepted a position at the University of Arkansas-Little Rock. While at Little Rock, Beard’s postseason success continued with a come-from-behind win in the NCAA Tournament against Purdue. That win capped off a historic 30-win season for Little Rock.

Beard has a 216-74 record in nine years as a head coach.

Back in June, Texas Tech head football coach Kliff Kingsbury spoke at Zentner’s Daughter while in town with his staff for the Angelo Football Clinic.
