7 Players from Concho Valley Named to TSWA 3A All-State Baseball Team

PEARLAND, TX-- The Texas Sports Writers Association announced their 2018 All-State baseball teams yesterday and seven players from the Concho Valley made the list.

Five Wall Hawks and two Brady Bulldogs were named by the association.

Gonzalo Morales, a shortstop, and Walker Bauer, a catcher, were named to the Honorable Mention team after helping the Bulldogs capture their first district title and first playoff series win in 2018.

Wall’s Dryden Virden was named to the first team as a catcher and was an honorable mention selection as a pitcher.

The former Hawk, bound for Weatherford College in the fall, hit the cover off the ball in 2018 with a .545 average, 54 RBIs and four home runs.

Virden also proved to be as dominant on the mound for the Hawks, pitching in 10 games for a total of 40 innings. Virden posted a team-low 1.57 ERA and a 7-1 record in nine starts for the Hawks. Virden closed out district play by throwing a no-hitter against Grape Creek in his first outing in over a month.

Senior-to-be Gage Weishuhn was also named to the first team as an outfielder. In right field, Weishuhn committed just two errors all year. Weishuhn also hit .402 in 2018 with a team-leading eight home runs and 38 RBIs.

Sophomore Caleb Heuertz was named to the second team as an outfielder. Heuertz saw action in the infield and on the mound for the Hawks last season, as well.

Heuertz posted a .391 clip at the plate with seven home runs and 34 RBIs in 2018.

Sutton Hurst and Tanner Seider were named to the third team infield as a first baseman and shortstop, respectively, to round out the Hawks’ selections.
