Abilene Cooper Coach Resigns; Successor Named Immediately

ABILENE, TX-- Abilene Cooper’s head football coach has resigned, according to KTXS.

Abilene ISD announced Todd Moebes’ resignation, and the promotion of defensive coordinator Aaron Roan, through a press release on Monday.

Personal reasons were cited in the release as the reason Moebes decided to resign.

Each coach has been with Abilene Cooper since 2006 with Moebes taking over the head coaching responsibilities in 2011.

At Cooper, Moebes compiled a 54-34 record in seven seasons with playoff berths each season. The Cougars had also made it to the third round five times under Moebes, including the past three seasons where they would eventually lose to state power Aledo.

Roan, a 2004 McMurry graduate, spent time coaching at Springtown and Stamford before moving on to Cooper.

"We are fortunate to have a person of the caliber of Aaron Roan here to step in and lead CHS athletics," said Abilene ISD Athletic Director Phil Blue. "Aaron is very familiar with all aspects of the football program, and will do a tremendous job of continuing the strong tradition of excellence in Cougar Nation."

Prior to the UIL’s realignment this past february, Cooper was in Lake View’s district. The Chiefs have since moved down to Class 4A.

Sudden resignations for "personal" reasons always leaves me wondering what really happened, which leads to speculation. Wouldn't it be better to just put the truth out there?
