McIvor Named Preseason District Offensive MVP by Dave Campbell's Texas Football Magazine; Bobcats Picked 2nd in New District

SAN ANGELO, TX-- The annual summer edition of the Dave Campbell's Texas Football Magazine is set to hit shelves across the state next week.

For subscribers to the "Bible of Texas football", they received the magazine prior to its release in stores. It boasts "more than 1,400 previews of high school teams," which includes picking how teams will finish in each district in all 11 football classifications in UIL.

In it, the Central Bobcats were ranked 32nd out of the more than 200 programs in Class 6A.

Ahead of the 2018 season, all of the talk has been how the Bobcats will fare in the new, DFW team-heavy District 3-6A after dominating their West Texas counterparts in "The Little Southwest Conference". The Bobcats were 23-2 in their two seasons in the old district, with their two losses coming in the playoffs.

The contributors to the magazine selected the Bobcats to finish second, behind 2017 Regional Finalist Euless Trinity.

The Trojans are returning nine starters from 2017 while the Bobcats return 10. However, Trinity is more balanced in returning five offensive starters and four defensive starters. Seven of the Bobcats 10 returning starters are on the offensive side of the ball.

While Central was picked second, the Bobcats received praise in their senior-to-be quarterback and offensive line.

Texas Tech commit Maverick McIvor, who picked up an offer from ACC outfit Syracuse on Thursday, was named the Preseason District 3-6A Offensive MVP and a player to watch in Class 6A.

The 6-foot-3 gunslinger was stellar in his first year as the starter for the Bobcats, completing 62% of his 422 passes for 3,415 yards and 43 touchdowns. McIvor also boasted 870 rushing yards and eight touchdowns on the ground.

Gunner Couch, also going to be a senior, was the lone Bobcat named to the Preseason All-State team in the magazine. Couch had a stellar 2017 campaign and will shift over to center for the Bobcats in 2018.

The Bobcats will open their 2018 campaign on Friday, Aug. 31. by hosting Killeen Shoemaker at San Angelo Stadium.
