SAN ANGELO, TX-- Central’s star quarterback has announced where he will play following the conclusion of his senior season in blue and orange.
Maverick McIvor announced via his personal Twitter that he has verbally committed to Texas Tech University.
“What a ride,” Central’s QB1 began his statement. “First, I want to thank God for giving me the ability to play the game I love. Next, I want to thank my family for supporting me throughout this journey. From day one, they have been with me and have shown indescribable support.”
McIvor had seen courting attempts from schools in each of the Power 5 conferences in Division I football.
“Lastly, thanks to all the universities for giving me the opportunity to play at the next level,” McIvor said before pledging to the Red Raiders.
Maverick is coming off a stellar season as the starting signal caller for Bobcats. The Red Raider pledge accounted for 4,300 yards of total offense and 52 total touchdowns while throwing just eight interceptions in 422 attempts in Central’s high-powered offense.
And McIvor made sure to recognize his coaches for putting him in an advantageous position with that offense and in life.
“Shoutout to Coach [Kevin] Crane and the [San Angelo] coaching staff for having such a positive impact on my life,” McIvor said.

McIvor’s commitment turned the heads of everyone from current Texas Tech players, fellow commits and even famous singers like Texas Tech alum Josh Abbott.
“If Maverick isn’t a Texas Tech QB name, I don’t know what is,” the singer tweeted out.
McIvor’s commitment comes on the heels of Texas Tech head coach Kliff Kingsbury visiting an alumni function and the Angelo Football Clinic.
Texas Tech was the lone Big 12 school to offer to McIvor, the son of Texas Longhorn legend Rick McIvor.
The similarities between the offenses for Texas Tech and Central sold McIvor on staying in west Texas and joining former Central Bobcats Eli and Henry Howard.
Now that McIvor has announced his commitment, he is able to solely focus on the upcoming season which is the first for the Bobcats in the new DFW-based District 3-6A.
