Sonora, Brady Book Tickets to State 7-on-7 Tourney

SONORA, TX-- The Sonora Broncos and Brady Bulldogs became the 13th and 14th teams to qualify for the Division III State 7-on-7 Tournament on Saturday at the BroncoNation State Qualifying Tournament in Sonora.

The Broncos and Bulldogs were paired in the same pool, with the Broncos going 3-0 in pool play and Brady going 2-1.

Sonora opened up the tournament with a dominant 69-20 win over Eldorado. Brady bested Alpine 39-26 in their opener.

The two teams would collide in their second game, with Sonora taking the result 50-12. Eldorado lost to Alpine 32-28 in their second game.

In the final game of pool play, Brady and Sonora almost mirrored each other with Sonora besting Alpine 45-21 and Brady dispatching Eldorado 41-20.

The Broncos met with Pool B runner-up Wink in the State Qualifying round. The Broncos struggled early on to stop the Wildcats, but eventually they would tame their opponents thanks to a pair of pick-six interceptions by Oscar Gutierrez and would go on to a comfortable 59-27 win.

Brady got Pool B winner Van Horn in the State Qualifying round. The Bulldogs dominated Van Horn to a 34-14 win.

Sonora and Brady played one half of the allotted time in a championship game. Sonora won that game 18-13.

This is the third time in four years that Sonora has qualified for the State 7-on-7 Tournament.

Sonora will travel to Brownwood for another tournament to prep for the State Tournament which takes place in College Station beginning June 28. That will be the next tournament Brady plays in as well.
