No. 6 Rambelles Eliminated from CWS against Southern Arkansas

 

SALEM, VA-- The no. 6 Angelo State University Rambelle softball team saw their quest for a second National Championship halted with a 3-0 loss to Southern Arkansas University Saturday morning.

The Rambelles were only able to muster two hits in the elimination game loss with senior Madison Greenwell and junior Taegan Kirk each going 1-for-3 at the plate. Greenwell singled in the top of the first and Kirk singled in the fourth inning.

Senior pitcher Brandy Marlett made her third straight start at the Division II Softball College World Series. The Henderson, Nev., native threw five and a third innings for the Rambelles, allowing three runs on seven hits with six strikeouts and a pair of walks.

Fellow senior Morgan Hill came on in relief of Marlett for the final two outs in the sixth inning. Hill allowed just one hit with a walk and a strikeout in her four batters faced.

Southern Arkansas’ Rachel Miller opened the scoring with a solo home run to left field in the bottom of the second inning.

The Rambelles held the Muleriders scoreless across the next two frames before Jill Roye extended Southern Arkansas’ lead to two runs with an RBI single in the fifth inning.

The Muleriders added another run when Monica Islava sent a solo homerun over the right-center field wall.

The Rambelles finished the season with a 53-9 record. Southern Arkansas advances to face Saint Anslem in another elimination game.
