SALEM, VA-- The no. 6 Angelo State Rambelle softball team fell into the elimination bracket with a 3-0 loss to the Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles on Friday.
Southern Indiana’s sophomore pitcher Jennifer Leonhardt no-hit the Rambelles in the game.
Leonhardt went seven complete innings with 10 strikeouts for the no-hitter.
The Rambelles managed just one baserunner with Karina Rocha drawing a two-out walk in the top of the second inning off of Leonhardt.
Senior Brandy Marlett started in the circle for the Rambelles following her one-hit gem yesterday. The All-American went five and two-thirds innings, allowing three runs on five hits with six strikeouts. Fellow senior Morgan Hill came on for a third of an inning.
Southern Indiana used a big two-out rally in the bottom of the fifth inning to plate their three runs. After a walk to put two runners on with two outs, Marlett made way for Morgan Hill who recorded the final out of the inning.
Caitlyn Bradley drove in two runs with her single to right field before Allison Schubert drove in the final run with a single of her own.
The Rambelles will now face the winner of the Chico State-Southern Arkansas elimination game at 7:30 a.m. Saturday. A loss means the Rambelle’s season will be over. The game time was change due to the possible inclement weather.
