No. 6 Hawks Shut Down in Series Opener Against No. 2 Brock

WEATHERFORD, TX-- The no. 6 Wall Hawks lost their first game of the playoffs in 2018 with a 9-1 drubbing by the no. 2 Brock Eagles.

Brock’s starting pitcher Jase Lopez was as dominant as you could ask for in the opener of the best-of-three series.

Lopez went the complete game, allowing the one run on Caleb Heuertz’ home run in the top of the fourth inning. That was also the only hit the Brock hurler allowed. Lopez also finished with 13 strikeouts and two walks.

Lopez set down the first nine batters he faced in order prior to the home run.

Sutton Hurst got the nod for the Hawks in game one with Dryden Virden serving a one-game suspension. Hurst went three and two-thirds innings and was charged with the loss after allowing nine runs on seven hits with three strikeouts and a walk.

Baylor Halfmann came on for two and a third innings of relief of Hurst. Halfmann allowed no runs on two hits with a walk during his relief outing.

Brock opened the scoring in the bottom of the first when Cole Lightfoot nailed an RBI double. Cooper Nelson would drive in Lightfoot with a single two batters later.

A pair of sacrifice flies by Brock would extend their lead to four in the bottom of the third before breaking the game open with a five-run fourth inning.

The Hawks will look to avoid elimination tomorrow when the two teams will meet at Angelo State’s Foster Field at First Community Federal Credit Union Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. If the Hawks can win game two, a decisive third game will be played 30 minutes after game two.
