Another Power 5 Offer Comes McIvor's Way

SAN ANGELO, TX—Central quarterback Maverick McIvor picked up his fourth Power 5 conference offer, this time from an Atlantic Coast Conference school.

The 6-foot-3 gunslinger tweeted out he received an offer from the University of North Carolina on Wednesday.

“Blessed to have received an offer from North Carolina!” McIvor said in the tweet.

The offer means Central’s signal caller now has four of the five biggest conferences in college football represented on his offer list with the likes of Ole Miss, Minnesota and Washington State sending offers.

The only Power 5 conference missing? The Big 12.

McIvor has generated interest from Big 12 schools like Baylor and Texas Tech. McIvor took a junior day visit to Baylor back in February. With McIvor being the son of Texas Longhorn legend Rick McIvor, it’d be hard to believe if the Longhorns don’t show any interest in Maverick.

The returning starter has seen the recruiting push pick up a lot of steam over the last few weeks.

His latest offer comes after the Horned Frogs of Texas Christian University, another Big 12 school, were on hand at Central’s spring practice on Wednesday likely to evaluate McIvor.

The Horned Frogs have some experience recruiting San Angelo as former quarterback Brennen Wooten went to TCU after graduating high school. Granted, Wooten had committed to TCU prior to his transfer from Marble Falls to west Texas.

A Power 5 commitment from McIvor would etch the quarterback’s name in the books as one of few Central quarterbacks to play football at the highest level of college football.

McIvor has also received offers from Boise State, Bowling Green, Colorado State, North Texas and UTEP.

The Tar Heels went 3-9 in 2017, their first year after the Mitchell Trubisky era. Trubisky was drafted in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears.

Quarterback play was at the center of UNC’s dismal season a year ago which explains why they’re looking for their next star to saddle their spread offense.

North Carolina was unable to find a true rhythm without Trubisky anchoring their 2017 offense, averaging just 225 yards passing per game while using three different quarterbacks for various reasons.

The ACC is the same conference that Clemson, the 2017 National Champion, resides in.

The Bobcats continue their spring practices until concluding the spring festivities with their annual Spring Game on Friday, May 18, at 6 p.m. at San Angelo Stadium.
