Lady Eagles Run Rampant Against Menard

ELDORADO, TX-- It took three innings for the Eldorado Lady Eagles to bury District 5-2A foe Menard 15-0 at the Schleicher County Park softball field on Tuesday.

Well, really the Lady Eagles needed just two innings after not scoring a run in the opening frame. Following the scoreless first inning, the Lady Eagles sent 15 batters to the plate to score 11 runs in the second.

"Our bats weren't alive in the first inning, then we came out in the second and jumped on [Menard]," said Eldorado Head Coach Abby Ramos. "That really helped us a lot."

The Lady Eagles tallied nine of their 15 total hits before the Lady Yellowjackets posted an out in the bottom of the second.

Eldorado's pitcher Monica Sanchez stymied Menard for just one hit in the three inning game. Sanchez would also tally five strikeouts while also not allowing any other baserunner aside from the lone hit to get the win.

In the bottom of the third, the Lady Eagles put an end to the rout with a four-run inning capped off by a walkoff, inside-the-park home run by CJ Covarrubiaz.

Regina Alvizo went 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBIs and two runs scored for Eldorado. Jadyn Martinez matched Alvizo's RBI mark and scored a run in her 1-for-2 performance at the plate.

Andi Morris was the only Lady Eagle to go 3-for-3 at the plate. Morris also scored two runs for Eldorado.

An explosive win like this has the potential to create momentum for the Lady Eagles heading into their final two district games.

"It's possible. They've just got to believe in themselves," Ramos said of her team. "They're hot right now and I hope it will carry them through Mason and absolutely through Junction because that's a big one for us."

The Lady Eagles (6-11, 3-5) hope to get some help from Ozona against Junction (3-16, 2-5) and will travel to face district front-runner Mason (10-4, 8-0) on Friday, April 13, at 5 p.m.

Menard falls to 0-7 in district play heading into their Friday clash with Junction on the road.
