SAN ANGELO, TX-- The Central Lady Cats overcame a four-run deficit to beat the Killeen Harker Heights Lady Knights 13-12 despite a late charge from the Lady Knights.
The Lady Cats allowed three runs in the first before pulling within one run after the first frame.
Trailing 6-4 in the bottom of the fourth inning, the Lady Cats took their first lead of the game with a five-run inning helped by a two-run double by Bailey Fulps to tie the game and a sac-fly from Ashton McMillan to put the Lady Cats up 7-6. Central would lead 9-6 after the fourth.
A three-run fifth inning, highlighted by a two-run double from Sydnie Gilbert, would extend the Central lead to 12-6.
Harker Heights would score three runs in each the sixth and seventh inning to make things close.
Katheryne Herrera scored the decisive run in the sixth inning on a passed ball.
Gilbert finished a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs and three runs scored. Fulps went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and McMillan went 1-for-3 with three RBIs.
McMillan started in the circle, going two-and-a-third innings where she allowed six runs on two hits with a pair of strikeouts. Fulps was credited with the win after four-and-two-thirds innings with six runs on eight hits with four strikeouts.
The Lady Cats (14-10-2, 7-3) still control third place in District 8-6A and will next face Killeen on the road this Friday, April 6, at 6 p.m.
