Bearcats Parade Around the Bases to Dominate Sonora

BALLINGER, TX-- The Ballinger Bearcats notched a 17-5 win in five innings against the Sonora Broncos on Tuesday.

Sonora opened the scoring in the top of the first inning when Dylan Taylor scored on an error by Cole Zentner on Wesley Dutton's ground ball to make it 1-0.

Ballinger bounced back with five runs in their first at-bats. Cody Daily highlighted the bottom of the first with a two-run double for the Bearcats, who led 5-1 after the inning.

Sonora tallied their second run in the top of the second when Hunter Bunch scored on an error.

The Bearcats then exploded for 12 runs in the bottom of the second to take a 17-2 lead. Ballinger sent 16 batters to the plate in that inning. Jon Marcon drove in two runs on a triple to left field.

The Broncos plated three more runs in their next two at-bats, but it wasn't enough to avoid the run-rule.

Ballinger's DJ Cavazos went 3-for-3 with four RBIs to lead his team offensively. Taylor went 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI to lead the Broncos.

Daniel Gonzales started on the mound for Sonora and was charged with the loss after going one-and-a-third innings where he surrendered 13 runs on eight hits.

Cody Daily earned the win in three full innings of work for Ballinger where he gave up just two runs on two hits with three strikeouts.

Ballinger (8-9-1, 4-1) remains in a three-way tie with No. 22 Reagan County and No.13 Wall heading into their 3 p.m. showdown with Reagan County this Saturday in Ballinger.

Sonora (4-7, 1-4) hosts Wall this Saturday at noon at Sutton County Park.
