SAN ANGELO, TX-- The Lake View Chiefs got their first district win Friday Night after beating the Lubbock Westerners 5-2 at home.
“For the first time all year we played a complete game; from the first inning to the seventh inning,” said Lake View Chiefs Head Coach Chad Kinney. “We made some routine plays and there at the end we had some good, I don’t want to say spectacular, but good plays to finish off the game.”
Lubbock and Lake View traded shots the first inning with both teams scoring, but a strong second inning by the Chiefs is what decided the game.
After pulling ahead 5-2 after two innings the Chiefs were able to hold off the Westerners until the final inning.
Kinney stated “We had an idea at the plate. We didn’t make anything easy for them and we just competed for seven innings.”
Although the Westerners made a run in the top of the seventh inning Robert Ruiz finished off the game for the Chiefs after allowing a couple hits.
After picking up their first district win of the season Lake View (5-12-1, 1-2) looks to continue their success in district on the road against Lubbock Monterey at 7 p.m. next Tuesday, March 20.
