Long Ball Propels Lady Hawks to Snyder Tournament Title

 

SNYDER, TX-- The Wall Lady Hawks posted a 5-1 record at the Snyder Tournament over the weekend to take home first place in the Gold Bracket.

Wall knocked off Haskell 6-2 before dominating Forsan 17-2 to open the tournament on Thursday.

Ashley Dusek got the first homerun of the tournament for the Lady Hawks in the win over Haskell. Payton Box tallied the lone triple of game one and two Lady Hawks tallied doubles. Izzy Vera was the winning pitcher for Wall. Madi Herrera came on in relief of Vera.

In game two Dusek added another homerun to her name as well as a double. Ashlynn Box also got in on the action with a homerun and a triple. Rylee Morales and Lexi Valles also had doubles in the drubbing of the Lady Buffaloes. Herrera picked up the win in the circle

The Lady Hawks then ran in to some competition with Idalou in a 4-3 victory on Friday.

Ashlynn tallied her second homerun in as many games. Dusek and Kenzee Smith helped propel the Lady Hawks to the narrow win with a double each. Izzy Vera was given the winning decision and Kenzee Smith was credited with a save.

Wall would close out the day with another tightly contested game against Lamesa in which the Lady Hawks prevailed 9-8.

The Lady Hawks didn't lead until Dusek hit a three-run shot in the Lady Hawk's last at-bat. Smith was given the win for the Lady Hawks.

In their first game on Saturday, the Lady Hawks dropped their only game of the tournament in a 10-9 loss to Levelland.

To secure the tournament victory the Lady Hawks shutout the host Snyder 3-0 in their final game.

Vera and Herrera combined to shutout the Lady Tigers. Vera went five innings and Herrera picked up a six-out save in the win.

Wall improve to 12-4-1 on the year and will open District 4-3A play this Thursday when they travel to Grape Creek for a 1 p.m. game.
