LLANO, TX-- The Wall Hawks dropped two spots to fourth in the March 5 Texas High School Baseball rankings after splitting their final two games in the Llano Tournament.
In game one on Friday, the Hawks fell 10-3 to Lampasas in six innings despite outhitting the Badgers 9-8.
Lampasas took a 4-0 lead in the first inning after Mark Nikolauk hit a Badger batter with the bases loaded, a two-run double Jon Davis and a sac-fly.
Baylor Halfmann would get the Hawks on the board in the bottom of the third inning when he scored on an error by the Badger's first baseman to make it 4-1.
Lampasas would then score six unanswered runs, including a five-run fifth inning, to go up 10-1.
The Hawks would tack on two more runs in the sixth thanks to a single by Tanner Seider to make it 10-3. But it wasn't enough as the Hawks couldn't continue the two-out rally.
Seider and Brock Rosenquist both finished 2-for-4 at the plate. Seider had two RBIs in the loss.
Nikolauk was charged with the loss in his 3-and-a-third innings of work.
In game two on Friday, the Hawks blew by Comfort 11-1 in five innings.
Both teams put up a run in the first inning to keep things level at 1-1. But Wall would use a four-run second inning and a five-run third inning to break the game open.
Senior Dryden Virden was stellar at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBIs, a walk and a run scored in the win.
Halfmann would go the distance for the Hawks in his first start on the mound since basketball season ended, allowing the one run on five hits with two strikeouts in the win.
The Hawks improve to 8-2-1 this season and will host Miles on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m.
