Central Baseball Splits Day 1 of Prosper Tournament

PROSPER, TX-- The Central Bobcats walked-off Byron Nelson 6-5 before losing on a walkoff 5-4 to the host Prosper on Thursday.

Central got on the board first when a fly ball to center field was dropped by Nelson's center fielder, allowing Cole Nelson and Rance Rosas to score to make it 2-0 in the first.

Byron Nelson would score a run in the second to halve Central's lead before the Bobcats would extend their lead to 3-1 on an RBI double to left field by Nixon Brannan.

Central would allow another run in the fifth before a triple by Rosas drove in Blake Mikeskas to put the Bobcats up by two again.

Three runs by Byron Nelson would tie the game at five in the sixth inning before Rosas won the game with two outs with an RBI single.

Jonathan Limon threw five strong innings for the Bobcats, allowing two runs on four hits before Spencer Burress came on in the sixth and gave up the three runs to Byron Nelson. Burress was credited with the win, however.

In the second game, Central and Prosper traded punches in the first two frames to make it 3-3 after two innings. The two teams were quiet through the fourth inning before Prosper grabbed a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Oscar Nino tied the game at four in the top of the sixth inning with an RBI single to score Rosas. The Bobcats left the door open at 4-4 heading to the bottom of the seventh inning. Prosper would walkoff with the win on an RBI single with one out to win the game 5-4.

Rosas led the Bobcats by going 2-for-3 with two runs scored in the loss.  Trey Neslage went four-and-a-third innings for Central, allowing four runs on four hits and striking out six. Micheal Cruz came on in relief for two innings and was charged with the loss.

The Bobcats continue the tournament today with games against Little Elm and McKinney starting at 5 p.m.
