Lake View Blanks Grape Creek for Blowout Win

SAN ANGELO, TX- With a dominant one-hit performance on the mound by Matty Chappa, the Lake View Chiefs blanked the Grape Creek Eagles  21-0.

“We did everything we were supposed to do," said Lake View Head Coach Chad Kinney. "Pitchers came in and threw strikes. Hit a little snag on the mound in the second inning but overcame it. "[We] always like to have a zero on the  board and at the plate. We did a great job of adjusting to different arms we saw.”

Grape Creeks pitching staff struggled throughout the game and the Chiefs capitalized by drawing walks and hitting the ball with power.

After scoring two runs in the first inning Lake View really broke things open in the third and fourth inning with a combined 19 runs.

The Eagles pitchers made it easy for the Chiefs by throwing a combined eight walks and four hit batsmen en route to the onslaught.

In those two innings alone, Lake View’s leadoff hitter Jaden Haynes almost hit for the cycle, only needing a home run after recording a triple in the fourth inning. Haynes would lead the Chiefs with five RBIs

When speaking about his ball club's hitting performance Kinney stated, “We kind of struggled at the plate this year, but we kind of broke through. We hit the ball hard and didn't try to do too much. Just went with what they threw us and hit the ball, put the ball in place and scored some runs.”

Lake View would score their 21 runs on 11 hits with three errors

Robert Ruiz came in the final inning as relief for Chappa after four full innings of one-hit baseball where he struck out eight Eagles. Ruiz was perfect to seal the game for the Chiefs with two strikeouts and a flyout to right field in his one inning of work.

Lake View improves to 4-1 and will look to build on their shutout victory in their upcoming Sweetwater Tournament this weekend, while Grape Creek looks to bounce back in their tournament at Hawley High School.
