Gail, TX -- The Wall Hawks blew past Kermit High School in a 75 - 23 victory Tuesday night in Borden County.
"It was really good for our guys to get some momentum, I thought," Wall Head Coach Brian Blackburn said after the win. "Offensively, I thought we were really sharp in the first half. Our focus was to keep our defensive intensity for 32 minutes. I thought we did a good job of that. Our young guys got a chance to play there at the end, so that's always exciting. Hopefully it's something we can build on."
The 21st-ranked Hawks utilized their range by draining 12 three-pointers in the win.
However, the Hawks were held scoreless for the first two minutes before Sterlyn Hartman drained a three-pointer to open the scoring.
After that point, the Hawks never looked backed, outscoring Kermit 32-9 in the second quarter and 27-9 in the second half.
Hartman led the way for Wall with 22 points including six three-pointers.
"I thought Sterlyn did a great job shooting," Blackburn said. "But really, offensively in the first half, it was Colton Chitsey because they were all collapsing on him. Then Colton was getting a chance to kick the ball out to our open shooters. So, Sterlyn was kind of the recipient of Colton's drives. So we really applauded Colton there. He probably had eight assists in the first half. So that's what we applauded him for."
Chitsey would finish the night with seven points for Wall.
Baylor Halfmann scored nine points on three three-pointers in the second quarter and three Hawks had eight points in the win
The Hawks improve to 24 - 8 on the year and will face Spearman in the Area Round of Playoffs at 6:30 pm this Friday at Frenship High School.
