Central Appeal Denied by UIL, Will Stay in DFW District

AUSTIN, TX-- The San Angelo Central appeal has been denied by the University Interscholastic League after an administrative team from San Angelo ISD spoke to the UIL.

"We are certainly disappointed by this outcome," San Angelo ISD Director of Communications Derrick Jackson said in a statement. 

San Angelo ISD filed the appeal last week to be removed from District 3-6A with predominately Fort Worth schools.

The appeal stemmed from the travel time that student-athletes would have and how that meant they would miss considerable amounts of class time.

"Our expectation was that the UIL would take the long distances traveled by our students in all sports, plus the amount of classroom time they would miss due that travel under more serious consideration when rendering their final decision," said Jackson. "We remain steadfast in supporting our students, staff and parents as SAISD overcomes this setback."

Central was placed in District 3-6A Abilene, Euless Trinity, Haltom City, Hurst LD Bell, North Richland Hills and Weatherford to the shock of everyone at San Angelo ISD during the Feb. 1 realignment.

The denial means Central athletes and coaches will frequently make a round-trip of eight hours to the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex for district games.

For the Bobcat football team, these trips will come after making the long trek to El Paso to play Pebble Hills in non-district.
