Dosson, Lady 'Cats Pull Away Late from Harker Heights

SAN ANGELO, TX-- After getting off to a slow start Friday night the Central Lady Cats managed to gain momentum and overtake Harker Heights 46-33 in a lopsided home victory.

“I thought we rushed some shots in that first quarter. We were impatient at times and couldn't buy a basket,”said Central Heach Coach Landon Dyer. “We only had there in the first quarter, defensively we were okay and our defense even got better to the second quarter.”

Things looked eerie for the Lady Cats early on as they only managed  to score three points in the first quarter, although they did hold Harker Heights to only eight points.

The Lady Cats continued their strong defensive play in the second while they turned things around on the offensive side of the ball with smart plays that led to points rather than turnovers.

Morgan Walker was at the forefront of the ferocious charge, and stepped up in a big way for her team by limiting turnover and getting her teammates involved.

“We limited our turnovers tonight. We still went over 10 on the turnover count, but we've had some games where are turnovers are pushing 20,” said Coach Dyer. “You can’t win games like that, so tonight we kept our turnovers closer to ten. That was a big factor.”

Mary Hardin-Baylor commit Cayde Nelms had a big quarter as well scoring five of her nine total points for Central.

Harker Heights pressured Central in the third and cut their deficit in half, but could not continue their strong play into the fourth.

Tay Dosson, meanwhile, played a major role for the Lady Cats leading Central with 18 total points, which included 11 clutch points in the final quarter.

The Lady Cats face Killeen next at home on January 30 at 6pm, a team they have already beaten once this season.
