Chippy Game Goes the Way of No. 13 Wall

SONORA, TX— The Sonora Broncos took the No. 13 Wall Hawks down to the wire in a hotly contested District 4-3A matchup on Friday. Wall would come away with the win 37-29 after clutch made free throws by senior Brandon Dusek late in the fourth.

“[Sonora] had a great gameplan coming in,” said Wall Head Coach Brian Blackburn said. “It’s a tough place to play. I think our guys really battled. Defensively, there’s not a lot negative to say about our team effort. It was outstanding. The guys rebounded the ball great and we contested shots. Offensively we’re going to have to improve in practice.”

Sonora continued to nip at the Hawks’ heels throughout the contest, including making it a 2 point game going in to the 4th quarter.

“Sonora is a really tough team. Their athletic and physical,” Blackburn stressed. “They played really hard. I thought we did what we had to do to get the win.”

Wall’s Colton Chistey led the way in scoring for Wall with 11 points in the win.

“Colton was really solid tonight,” the Hawks’ Head Coach said. “He’s been steady for us all year.”

Jalen Lopez and Evan Shannon both tallied six points each to lead Sonora.

Home fans were upset by the officiating in the game after Sonora was called for 14 fouls in the second half while Wall had just four. Fans were yelling, screaming and pleading with the refs to “call it both ways.”

The calls the fans wanted never came and Wall sealed the victory with 10 seconds left.

Wall improves to 23-2 and 5-0 in district play while Sonora falls to 11-6 and 4-2 in district play.
