SAN ANGELO, TX-- On Monday the Class 3A Associated Press Sports Editors All-State teams were released. Players selected to these teams were graded on their regular season performance.
The Wall Hawks put five players on the All-State teams. Sonora had three honored.
Garrett Nichols, a senior offensive linemen, was the only Hawk to be placed on the All-State first team. According to the APSE, Nichols graded out at 97 percent on his assignments with 28 knockdowns.
Sonora's lone first team honoree was senior Kaden Cordell as a punter. Cordell had 11 punts for a 45.8 yard average and a long of 54 yards. Cordell was also listed on the Honorable Mention list as a quarterback following a stellar season in which he threw for 3,259 yards, rushed for another 807, and accounted for 41 total touchdowns.
Sonora and Wall each placed one running back on the All-State second team.
Wall's senior Casey Braden and Sonora's senior Jarrett Jackson received second team honors following 1,000-yard, 20 touchdown seasons for both players.
Receiving Honorable Mention honors for the Hawks were Defensive Linemen Steve Watts and Carson Stephens, and Linebacker Dryden Virden, a Texas Tech baseball signee.
The other member of the Sonora Broncos on the Honorable Mention team aside from Cordell was defensive back Hunter Bunch.
