BROWNWOOD, TX—The second-ranked Wall Hawks fell 29-10 to the Brock Eagles on Friday in Brownwood.
It was a tale of two halves that saw the Hawks receive their only loss of the 2017 season, with a season record of 12-1.
In the first quarter, Wall would get the scoring started with a 36-yard field goal by senior Mitchell Horton to make the score 3-0 Hawks midway through the first quarter.
Later, with 9:58 left in the second quarter, senior quarterback Brock Rosenquist would find Mason Kindle wide open from the back of the end zone for the 20-yard touchdown pass, making the score 10-0 Wall.
Brock answered in that same quarter with a seven-yard scamper by Dawson Littlepage to narrow Wall's lead to 10-7 with 3:34 left in the first half. That is how the two teams went in to the halftime intermission.
Wall went in to the break with 110 yards of total offense while Brock had 90.
Out of the break, Wall got the ball to start but it did not last long. After driving to Brock's 34-yard line from their own 25, Wall's Tymber Carr fumbled the ball and Brock recovered it. That turnover began a sequence of three straight drives where Wall turned the ball over. Brock scored two touchdowns from those three turnovers to make it 20-10 at just under the 2-minute mark in the third quarter.
The Hawks' powerful offense was stymied in the second half, registering only 37 yards of offense. The Hawks were also penalized 10 times for 115 yards in the game.
The final touchdown of the game came with 2:39 left when Littlepage found pay dirt for the third time to make it 27-10.
A lateral pass found a Hawk receiver, but he slipped in the end zone for a Brock safety to finish the scoring at 29-10.
The loss marks the end of the high school careers of 24 Hawk seniors. The Hawks finish the season 12-1 following the loss.
