Explosive Second Half Ends the San Angelo Central Bobcats' Season to Mansfield Tigers
MANSFIELD, TX-- The San Angelo Central Bobcats dropped their Area playoff game to Mansfield 55-37 on Friday night at Vernon Newsom Stadium.
It was a tale of two halves as the Bobcats held a slim 17-13 lead at the half before Mansfield came back with 42 points in the second half.
"[Mansfield] has a lot of team speed," San Angelo Central Head Coach Brent Davis said following the game. "They've got more speed than us. We knew coming in it would be a tough deal trying to contain their offense. They're not complicated. They're just really big."
Mansfield got on the board first with a pair of field goals to make it 6-0 in the second quarter before Central would answer back with a field goal of their own to cut the lead in half.

However, on the ensuing kickoff, UCLA commit Cam'Ron Jones got his hands on the ball and ran it 95 yards for the touchdown to put Mansfield up 13-3 with 1:29 left in the first half.
Central would find the end zone on a four play, 76-yard drive capped off by a 23-yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Maverick McIvor to senior Henry Teeter. An Ezekiel Del Rio extra-point would make the score 13-10 with 32 seconds left in the half.
On the next kickoff, in an attempt to keep the ball out of the hands of Jones, Central kept the kickoff on the ground with a squib kick. Jones would make an attempt to field the kick but instead it was recovered by Central at Mansfield's seven yard-line.
The very next play would be a pass from McIvor to Teeter for another touchdown, giving Central their 17-13 halftime lead.
Mansfield got the ball out of halftime and made the most of their first two possessions. The Tigers ran two plays with Jaqulis Coleman, both went for touchdowns. The first was a 58-yard run while the second was from 47 yards out, making the score 27-17 with just over nine minutes left in the third quarter.
Central would make it a three point game when McIvor would find Teeter in the end zone for the third time in the game and make it 27-24 Mansfield with 3:41 left in the quarter.
Mansfield would put Central away with 28 unanswered points after that to make the score 55-24 late in the game.
Cody Parker would notch his first touchdown of the game when he took a McIvor handoff 30 yards to house to narrow the deficit to 55-31.
Following a Mansfield fumble, senior Jesse Scott would cap off the scoring and the game with a 28-yard touchdown as the clock hit zero.
The Bobcats outgained Mansfield in total offense with 446 total yards compared to the Tiger's 405. However, Central turned the ball over four times on the night ultimately sealing their fate.
The loss marks the end of the high school football careers for the Bobcat seniors.
Central finishes the season at 11-1 following another historic year.
