Bobcats Depart San Angelo for the Showdown with Mansfield

SAN ANGELO, TX — About three dozen San Angelo Central Bobcat boosters sent the football team off Friday morning at 11:30 a.m.

The three-bus armada departed the San Angelo Stadium field house at 11:36 a.m. this morning with three San Angelo police motorcycle escorts. The buses turned southwest of Knickerbocker Rd. for the trip to Mansfield.

The area playoff game is tonight at 7 p.m. at Newsom Stadium in Mansfield. While every sportswriter except San Angelo LIVE!’s own Sam Fowler is predicting a Central Bobcat defeat, fans and San Angelo business owners like Bryan Vincent, founder of Principle LED, who was there for the send-off, think otherwise.

San Angelo Central’s success on the football field is this city’s front door.

Meanwhile, in Dallas, in an abbreviated interview with Marc Henry, a sportswriter who covers DFW high school football for TexasHSfootball.com and Friday Night Glory said although he picked Mansfield for the win, his decision was tough.

“I think the Bobcats have a chance to pull the upset but I think Mansfield is built for a run this year. I’ve been watching film on the Bobcats’ squad all week. They have a great team. I was kinda torn,” Henry said.

Henry offered a ray of hope.

“If I’m Mansfield, I use ball control offense. I don’t want to get into a shootout with Central,” Henry said.
